VOCTOR SANTOS brings the troubled characters of MW to life in “The Eyes of Pandora,” one of several pulse-pounding tales found within the pages of TEZUCOMI, an all-star celebration of Osamu Tezuka’s many celebrated characters by some of Europe’s best comic creators!
MW is a suspenseful thriller created by Tezuka in the mid-70s as part of his “gekiga” (“dramatic pictures”) period, where the author explored more mature themes of vice and violence. The story tracks the dynamic link between a Japanese priest named Father Garai and a nefarious serial killer from his past named Yuuki Michio. Through the twisted series, it is revealed that the two came from the same small town that had been decimated by an experimental nerve gas called “MW.” While Garai sought to flee that tragic past, Yuuki sought revenge…
Revisiting this taught thriller, author Victor Santos brings his storytelling prowess to the project, having garnered praise for his knack for suspense with titles such as POLAR, a spy thriller that was ultimately adapted into a feature film starring Mads Mikkelsen and Vanessa Hudgens. The complex relationship at the heart of MW provided a rich playground that Victor makes the most of.
