METROPOLIS WITH MATHIEU BABLET

MATHIEU BABLET is one of the most celebrated comic artists in France with a string of critically-acclaimed original graphic novels released over the past decade alone, including SHANGRI-LA, CARBON & SILICON, and ADRASTEA. He brings that massive talent to TEZUCOMI, an all-star celebration by some of Europe’s best comic creators sharing their unique take on Osamu Tezuka’s most beloved characters.

METROPOLIS, by M. Bablet

Mathieu’s stories often feature the environment rendered to such detail that it becomes a character in the story itself. This suited the setting of METROPOLIS perfectly, particularly with the intricate, character-driven storytelling about A.I. and robots. He is the perfect artist to play in the world of Metropolis, which explores many similar themes.

Metropolis was one of Tezuka’s first projects set in an art-deco future where artificial life is commonplace, with robot servants a mainstay in society. The story features a detective, a missing girl, and a dense, seedy cityscape. It’s filled with thought-provoking themes about what it means to be human, the meaning of family, and so many other concepts that resonate just as strongly today.
