Federico Bertolucci was born in Viareggio, Tuscany, in February 1973. He studied at the Lycée Artistique in Lucca before entering the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara in 1998. That same year, he began working for the Walt Disney Company in Italy where he drew stories for the weekly Mickey and the monthly Minnie. In 2001, he joined the cartooning staff of Witch magazine, where he covers and illustrations for many popular properties, including Monster Allergy, The Flintstones, and the Disney comic Lilo and Stitch. He first collaborated with Frédéric Brémaud on Richard the Lion Hearted for Soleil in 2005, leading to a long and fruitful partnership with the writer on numerous celebrated projects, including the Love series of wordless wildlife stories, the Little Tails series of wildlife exploration comics for kids, and ultimately Brindille.
