He has been the subject of countless adaptations and portrayals. Guinness World Records lists him as the most portrayed literary human character in film and television history. The name Sherlock Holmes sparks recognition from nearly every person on Earth.
And yet, few are familiar with his very first adventure.
Holmes first appeared in the 1887 detective novel “A Study in Scarlet,” which met very little fanfare until the character found more widespread popularity through his serialized short stories in The Strand Magazine. That first adventure recounts the first meeting of Holmes and the man who would become his stalwart partner against crime, Dr. John Watson.
And now, that first sprawling adventure is vividly retold through the animated vision of illustrator Vincent Mallie.
